Te Kōunga o Te Hiringa Gary Coghlan Studentship Programme 2026
This studentship honours the legacy of the late Gary Coghlan, our longest-serving General Manager in Hauora Māori on the West Coast. Gary was deeply committed to workforce development and played a pivotal role in establishing the Studentship Programme for Te Tai o Poutini. His vision was to create meaningful opportunities for rangatahi to experience the realities and rewards of working in rural health.

Are you passionate about Māori or Pasifika health and considering a career in hauora?
Do you live by the values of whanaungatanga (connection), arohatanga (compassion), and manaakitanga (kindness)?
Applications are now open for students interested in working in rural health, who either:
- Reside on the West Coast,
- Have strong connections to the region, and/or
- Whakapapa to Te Tai o Poutini
Mō te tūnga - About the Role
- There will be six studentships offered, with each student receiving $5,000.00 as taxable wages.
- Students may only be selected twice through their study journey.
- The students will undertake activities at a Health Facility on the West Coast - Te Tai o Poutini, which benefit both the student’s learning experience and advances or assists any Health New Zealand, West Coast - Te Tai o Poutini project, event or other activity.
- The programme will run across the summer holiday period for a 4-week period. Orientation starts on 12th January 2026.
- The final date of the programme is Thursday 5th February 2026 (Waitangi Day is 6th February).
- You will be expected to be on the facility premises for the duration of the 4-week period Monday to Friday.
- Standard workday hours are to be expected (8:30am - 5:00pm).

To be eligible, applicants must:
• Be currently studying, enrolled, or intending to enrol in a recognised New Zealand education institution.
• Have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in rural health, particularly within Te Tai o Poutini.
• Have lived on the West Coast or have strong ties or whakapapa to the region.
