About the role

Our Sterile Services Department based at our Te Nikau Hospital in Greymouth are an integral part of ensuring quality service provision to our community. To ensure that we continue to offer the best patient care our key team keeps things running smoothly from behind the scenes.

You will work in a variety of roles within the theatres, in the day unit and in the sterilisation department. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Receive, sort, disassemble, decontaminate and clean used instruments, from Operating theatre, wards and departments
  • Prepare, assemble, check and wrap instruments and equipment for sterilisation according to department protocol and international standards
  • Sterilise instruments and equipment following international standards
  • Transport patients to theatre and back to the ward. Support and care for patients through their surgical experience
  • Prepare and clean the operating theatres and endoscopy procedure room as required 
  • Prepare and clean, decontaminate and store endoscopes

This role will work as part of a team of professionals who are motivated to provide a high quality, customer focused service. They pride themselves in providing high standards through personal and professional integrity. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team where preparation, communication and participation are important to maintain a well-functioning service. You will be working within a hard working tight knit team across a variety of shifts as well as regular "on call" shifts for emergency surgery, weekdays and weekends, both day and night.

About You

We are seeking a skilled sterile services technician to join our team in this permanent full time opportunity. You will demonstrate the following: 

  • High levels of attention to detail & is a fast learner
  • Physically fit & has a passion for the healthcare industry
  • Be prepared within 6 months of commencing work to begin the NZ Certificate in Health & Wellbeing (Level 3) Career force
  • Prioritise work and have the ability to meet expected times frames
  • Hold a current full driver's license
  • Participate in 24hr/365 days per year 'on call coverage' above normal working hours
  • Be comfortable using Microsoft computer programme and willing to learn theatre systems
  • Registration with NZSST is advantageous, however we will also consider a trainee
