Ehara taku I toa takitahi engari, he toa takitini

My strength is not the strength of one, it is the strength of many

The West Coast District Health Board prides itself in being at the forefront of Rural Healthcare in Aotearoa.  Being a Rural Health System is not simply a result of the setting in which we work, it means every staff member working to their full potential and striving for full integration of every single element of our organisation to create a world class healthcare experience.

If you are qualified, or about to qualify, as rural doctor under the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners, Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, or the Australian College of Remote and Rural Medicine (or equivalent) talk with us about the next step in your career.

What you’ll do with your time:

You will be a member of an outcome focussed interdisciplinary team of health professionals providing the full range of medical, health care of the elderly and surgical care, and you will enjoy excellent support from everyone in our health system. The right person will be someone who loves the work they do, is committed to health equity, and who is excited by the idea of working in a remote vibrant community.

The DHB employs over 1000 people and is fully involved in health care in the community, with 13 general practices/health clinics spread throughout the Coast.  The goal is to keep people well or treat them early and, in the community, if possible. Home based support, hospital specialists, primary care, aged residential care, nursing and allied health practitioners, all work in concert with the support of an innovative management team who focus on removing barriers to clinical practice.

We need people with a can-do attitude to join our exceptional team to work in rural medicine, emergency medicine and/or general practice.

As rural generalist with us your duties could include:

·  Delivering both acute and chronic disease primary care in remote locations and in the Integrated Family Health Centre

·  Working in the Emergency Department and supporting the junior workforce within the ED including fracture clinic work

·  Providing paediatric cover in partnership with tertiary paediatric services from Christchurch Hospital

·  Inpatient hospital care focusing on rehab and medical care for those admitted to the ward, as well as liaising with Christchurch teams about management and transfer

Why us

The successful candidate will be offered an attractive relocation and settlement package, a generous remuneration package, the chance to live in one of the most spectacular parts of Aotearoa and work out of a brand new hospital and Integrated Family Health Centre (due for completion early 2020).
