About the Role:

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our us in the Day Unit in the Perioperative Department at Te Nikau Hospital, Greymouth. In this role, you will use your nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, and expertise to assess health needs, provide high-quality patient care, and support individuals in managing their health. You will work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring best practice standards are met while upholding patient dignity, privacy, and cultural sensitivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Admission and discharge of patients for Day surgery
  • Admission and preparation of inpatients for surgery (DOSA).
  • Preparing patient notes and contacting patients to discuss their proposed surgery or procedure.
  • Checking pre-surgical investigations for each patient.
  • Organising operating lists to take best advantage of the operating time available and the needs of the patients in conjunction with the theatre team.
  • Caring and assisting patients pre and post operatively
  • Liaising with whanau as necessary and passing on information to them and the patient as necessary for their ongoing care

About you

Essential

  • New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-registration experience
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development (PDRP or working towards)
  • Completion of, or willingness to undertake, cultural competency training
  • Ability to work with children and provide compassionate, patient-focused care
  • Computer literacy 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Theatre and Recovery
  • Experience in orthopaedics (advantageous)
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to contribute to high-quality patient care
  • Ability to support teamwork and foster a positive working environment
  • Clinical competence, organisational ability, and adaptability to changing situations
