Obstetrics & Gynaecology Specialist – West Coast

About the Role
As an Obstetrics & Gynaecology Senior Medical Officer (O&G SMO), you will provide high-quality care to women across the West Coast. Your role will include:
- Working under a Medical Rural Generalist service delivery model, where all team members contribute and support each other
- Delivering O&G related medical services as a member of the Women’s and Children’s Health (W&CH) multidisciplinary team.
- Outpatient clinics, colposcopy, theatre sessions, and inpatient care
- Acute duties including birthing suite and emergency call
- Antenatal care delivered in partnership with Lead Maternity Carers (LMCs)
- Supporting and triaging referrals
- Provision of planned or acute, secondary and tertiary level, O&G practice at both West Coast and Canterbury districts.
- Participation in quality improvement, credentialing, and governance activities
About the Team / Service / Location
You will be part of multidisciplinary team delivering services across the West Coast. Our Medical Rural Generalist service delivery model requires a high degree of collaboration to ensure sustainable, high-quality care for rural communities. There are strong clinical relationships with Christchurch Women’s Hospital which enable seamless care, sharing of expertise and require you to be available to work in Christchurch on regular basis (to maintain and develop tertiary skills).

About You
As a Gynaecologist you will bring:
- Vocational registration (or eligibility for) with the Medical Council of New Zealand in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- Membership of RANZCOG (or equivalent)
- Broad clinical experience across secondary level gynaecology (including outpatient, day case, and inpatient care)
- Competent surgical skills relevant to the scope of O&G practice
- A strong commitment to equitable, patient- and whānau-centred care
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- A collaborative approach to working with both rural and tertiary colleagues
- A commitment to quality improvement, teaching, and clinical governance
- Experience or interest in rural or transalpine health systems is advantageous.
