Medical Laboratory Technician

Te Tai o Poutini West CoastRegional Laboratory is looking for a Medical Laboratory Technician, for our small but busy core laboratory. 

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality services to our clients and ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory. If you are passionate about delivering excellent patient care, maintaining laboratory standards, and contributing to the advancement of healthcare, we invite you to apply.

This position is for a casual working as and when required.

The laboratory operates between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday and provides on call services over weekends. 

The key objectives and responsibilities are to:

  • Provide polite, courteous, and prompt responses to client requests and inquiries.
  • Operate and use the laboratory information system for patient registration, data input, and result access.
  • Perform data input and information retrieval accurately and efficiently.
  • Collect blood samples from both inpatients and outpatients following laboratory protocols.
  • Perform routine laboratory testing and operating analysers.
  • Perform other laboratory duties, including troubleshooting relevant equipment.
  • Adhere to laboratory quality assurance procedures and policies.

This role requires the following:

  • Hold a Medical Laboratory Technician qualification or have a relevant Science degree to qualify for registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician is preferred.
  • Experience working in a medical laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory protocols, techniques, and equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in recording and reporting.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
  • Understanding of health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Be culturally sensitive, with an understanding of the Principles and Articles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
