General Practitioner - Westport

On the West Coast, we are leading the way in many respects when it comes to innovations in rural health delivery in New Zealand. We’re all about supportive working relationships between the practices and hospitals; as well as enjoying the unique work relationships that stem from the diverse GP network on the West Coast. With a new Integrated Health Centre being planned in the next 2 years, we need someone who is excited to be on that journey to improve as we are.

If you think that you and your family could benefit from a less frantic, urban existence then consider a change to a rural coastal community.  Trade in your “same old, same old” for a lifestyle where challenging, varied and engaging work is balanced with an array of outdoor activities, such as: hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, horse trekking, hunting and fishing.

Located at the top of the South Island's West Coast, Buller District is where you can find some of the best outdoor recreational activities that New Zealand has to offer, as well as small towns with a welcoming community. Hiking, rafting, caving, horse trekking, mountain biking and 4WD adventures will be on your doorstep and keep your work-life balance a reality.

With two national parks, a forest park and numerous scenic reserves, rivers and beaches you'll easily be able to get off the beaten track. Based in a beautiful rural setting, you will have a broad scope of practice, huge variety and exposure to more than you would working at an urban practice in New Zealand. If you need a big City fix then hop over to Wellington on the daily direct flights or Nelson and Christchurch is just a few hours drive away.

Whether you are looking for a long-term locum or a permanent position, we can offer flexible working arrangements that fit in with your lifestyle.  For those who can commit to 12 months or more, we offer very attractive relocation package to assist with your move to the area.

On the West Coast of the South Island, you’ll rediscover a love of medicine. After a day in which you get the chance to get to know your patients, you’ll have the time and the energy to get out and enjoy the world around you.

Only candidates who are eligible for registration to practice in New Zealand can be considered, so please check you eligibility with the MCNZ by following this link here.
