About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and supportive Clinical Coach to join our Workforce Development Team/Education Cluster on the West Coast.
Based in Greymouth, you’ll play a pivotal role in coaching and guiding new graduate nurses across a variety of rural clinical settings – helping them transition safely into professional practice. By providing clinical coaching, mentoring, and role-modelling, you’ll enable excellence in rural health outcomes while living out the values and vision of Te Whatu Ora | West Coast.
This role is a Registered Nurse (RN) position, paid on the RN salary scale, and requires you to work within the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s scope of practice and competencies.
About the role
- Coach and mentor new graduate nurses, supporting them to deliver safe, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate care.
- Facilitate a smooth transition from study to practice through structured coaching and positive feedback.
- Act as a change agent, inspiring and motivating practice improvement across teams.
- Support career development opportunities for new graduates and preceptors, including preceptor training, PDRP, postgraduate study, and advanced practice pathways.
- Contribute to nurse recruitment and retention across the Coast by fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Managers, and the Workforce Development team to deliver coaching plans, facilitate learning opportunities, and evaluate progress.
About You
Essential:
- NZ Registered Nurse with current APC (no conditions preventing full scope of practice).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ post-registration nursing experience.
- Completion of preceptor training and at least 1 year’s experience as a preceptor.
- Proven ability to work at a proficient level of practice.
- Cultural competence (completed or willing to undertake training).
- Full, clean NZ driver’s licence
- Computer literacy and confidence with electronic health records.
Desirable:
- Current Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolio.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Experience with adult learning and coaching principles.
- Assessor qualification (4098) / PDRP Assessor.
- CPR Trainer certification.
